Couple Indicted for Capital Murder in Tragic Toddler Death

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Two San Angeloans were arrested Thursday after being indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury on capital murder charges in connection with the death of 21-month-old Nathaniel Quezada in March 2018.

Andrew Andy Fernandez, 35, and Lesley Renay Moreno, 27, were indicted on charges of capital murder of a person under ten years of age.

As we reported earlier, Fernandez was the toddler's stepfather and had reached out to local media outlets after the child died.

Fernandez said “the toddler had a type of bone ailment that caused his bones to break more easily and made bruising more frequent.”

The autopsy showed the boy tested negative for any bone disease.

“Sufficient injury was found at autopsy to allow certification of death as noted below,” states to autopsy report. “Cause of death: Multiple vertebral fractures due to blunt impact trauma.”

Very specifically, the cause of death was broken bones due to blunt impact trauma.

Fernandez and Moreno remain jailed in lieu of $1 million bond each.
