Toddler Severely Injured When Mom on Meth Crashes Doing 80 MPH

ABILENE, TX -- A woman was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger and injury to a child on following a high speed crash in Abilene Thursday.

Angelina Pena, 23, called police to report that she had crashed her car around 2 a.m. She told authorities that her daughter was in the car and was hurt.

When medics arrived, they found Pena holding her daughter whose head was bleeding.

According to police, when they arrived on the scene they noticed that Pena's eyes were bloodshot, her speech was slurred, her breath smelled like alcohol, and she was unsteady on her feet.

According to KTXS, Pena told police that she had drank alcohol, and had taken methamphetamine before driving that night.

She also told police that she was traveling at approximately 80 mph with her daughter in the vehicle unrestrained.

When police asked why the child wasn't fastened, according to police, she said it was because "she did not care what happened."

Pena's daughter suffered a serious head injury due to the crash.

Pena is being held in the Taylor County Jail on a $35,000 bond.
