Man Sent to Prison for Intoxication Manslaughter in Horrible Crash

 

ODESSA, TX-- A man who killed three people after he crashed his car into a ice cream while he was drunk in 2017 pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday. 

In June of 2017, Mark Garrett was traveling at high speed when he lost control of his vehicle causing him to crash into a ice cream truck that had three passengers inside. The crash cause a fire that caused all three people in the ice cream truck to become trapped where they later died. Garrett also had a group of friends in his 2017 Dodge Challenger. According to CBS 7, They were taken to the hospital, but survived. Garrett was arrested and charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter using a deadly weapon and three counts of intoxication assault using a deadly weapon.

Garrett was released on bond, but was taken back into custody after he broke a bond agreement by drinking again. 

He has now pleaded guilty for the three counts of intoxicated manslaughter and intoxicated assault using a deadly weapon and received only 20 of the possible 90 year sentence.
