"Kiss and Kill" Killer Dies At 75

ODESSA, TX-- The "Kiss and Kill" killer, John Mack Herring, died on Saturday at the age of 75, CBS 7 reports.

Herring shot and killed Betty Williams in 1961 after she had allegedly told him to do it. People around the nation were fascinated by the case, especially since Herring came out and admitted to killing his then girlfriend. This is how the name "Kiss and Kill" came about.

Herring ended up being found not guilty, but instead was deemed insane at the time of the killing.

Multiple accounts showed that Williams had been suicidal before it all happened. Williams's cousin, Shelton Williams, published a book in 2004 called “Washed in the Blood” about the killing, and Texas Monthly also did an article over the case.

Herring continued to live in the Odessa area throughout the rest of his life.
