79 Shih Tzus Rescued from Eula Home Now Belong to SPCA

EULA, TX-- A Callahan County Justice of the Peace granted custody of 79 Shih Tzus to the SPCA after they were rescued from a home in Eula, KTXS reports.

The owner of the dogs -- a 59-year-old woman -- is currently being treated at a mental health facility in Abilene and did not show up to court on Tuesday to dispute the case. Now she has 10 days to appeal and post an appeal bond of $50,000.

The owner was found walking in the middle of FM 603, according to the report.

Deputies smelled the strong odor of ammonia coming from her house. They got a search warrant and found the dogs inside.

Even though the Callahan County Sheriff's office feels this is an indisputable case of animal hoarding, they do not believe the woman will face criminal charges.
