ABILENE, TX-- Police in Abilene were told by a man accused of trying to rape four women that voices told him to "rape," according to a report from KTXS.
A grand jury indicted Joshua Joseph Day, 38, on four counts of attempted sexual assault and one count of injury to a disabled individual. All four attacks reportedly happened within 20 hours.
The indictment says Day pulled his first victim out of her car in the 800 block of Ross Ave. around 1 p.m. on Aug. 29. The victim resisted Day's attack by kicking him and screaming "no," according to the indictment.
Once Day let go, the victim shut the door and started honking the horn until her friend came out. The friend told her sister to call 911.
Day then attacked another woman in the 1600 block of Belmont Blvd. around 5:45 p.m. the same day.
The victim was attempting to get into her car when Day grabbed her and tackled her to the ground, landing on top of her. The indictment says Day then pulled her pants to her knees.
When Day pulled his pants down, the victim pulled hers up. She then kicked Day in the face and yelled "the cops!" Day looked to see if someone was coming before trying to remove her pants again.
Neighbors heard the woman screaming and came outside. Day then fled the scene.
The indictment says Day attacked a third woman just before 5:00 a.m. on Aug. 30. The victim "saw a figure walking towards her" while walking on S. 16th St.
Fearing that she was being followed, the victim turned onto Palm St. She went to pick up a wrench she saw in the road when Day allegedly attacked her, police say. He punched her and scratched her, according to police.
After taking off the victim's shorts, Day tried to touch her "private parts," according to the indictment. She then used her hands to block Day's access. He then "rubbed something" against the victim's hands before jumping up, putting his pants on and leaving.
His final attack was around 8:30 a.m. in the alley between S. 2nd St. and Butternut.
The fourth victim was in the alley to feed stray cats. While putting the cat food back in her trunk, the woman said she heard "mumbling."
Shortly after that, "[Day's] hands were all over her." He then stuck his hand down her pants, the indictment states.
The victim elbowed Day and pushed him in his face to resist. She tried to flee, but lost her balance and fell. Day fled the scene.
He was arrested the same day and confessed to all four attacks. He told police that he was doing what the voices in his head told him to do.
Day also told police he changed clothes and wore glasses in order to disguise himself and make him harder to identify.
He is currently being held in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling $115,000.

If his assertion is true, it sounds like schizophrenia...my nephew has it, and yes, he hears voices sometimes. He once said the only time he doesn't hear them is when he is stoned. Broke my heart...

PermalinkThanks for that sympathy vote for the perp.
Now I don't feel sorry at all for these women.
Did those voices also tell him to disguise himself?
Typical dim response. Always blame the victim.

PermalinkNo victim blaming in my post. I also feel for the women. The mental health care system stinks (as it does in Canada slso for those keeping score on my so called anti-American posts). Pointing fingers and calling people 'kookie' is part of the problem.

PermalinkNo Canadian blaming in my post. I did not know you are from or in Canada.
I'm tired of excuses for bad behavior.
And yes we need more mental health awareness.
