Former Lake View, Reagan County Coach Arrested for Improper Relationship with Student

BIG LAKE, TX-- On Thursday, Oct. 4, Reagan County deputies arrested a former Reagan County ISD coach on charges of an improper relationship between an educator and a student, a second degree felony, according to a report from the Big Lake Wildcat.

Matthew Christopher Hummingbird, 26, who is currently the quarterbacks coach at Kermit High School and a math teacher at Kermit Junior High, was arrested in Kermit on Thursday by Reagan County deputies.

In the Big Lake Wildcat's report, the arrest warrant affidavit accuses Hummingbird of having a sexual intercourse with a Reagan County ISD student twice from January to March of this year.

The arrest warrant affidavit says the victim was a Reagan County High School student while Hummingbird was a math teacher and coach at Reagan County Middle School.

The report says Hummingbird gave "a full confession" to investigators on Thursday.

Prior to Kermit, Hummingbird served as the assistant girls basketball coach at Lake View High School before moving on to teach and coach at Reagan County. Hummingbird is also a graduate of Angelo State University, where he served as a student coach while obtaining his degree.

This is a developing story and we will update the story as more information becomes available.
