Renegade Border Patrol Agent Suspected of Killing 4 Women Has Bond Set at $2.5 Millon

 

LAREDO, TX -- A ten year veteran of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol has been arrested in the murders of four women in Laredo.  

35-year-ols Juan David Ortiz was arrested on four counts of murder and was booked into the Webb County jail according to KTXS. 

He was found in hiding in a truck in a hotel parking lot after a what authorities called a ten day crime spree.  

Officials said Ortiz continued to report for work as normal during the ten day investigation by Texas Rangers and the Department of Public Safety. 

The investigation began with the discovery of the body of 29-year-old Melissa Ramirez who was shot in the head and her body was found in rural northern Webb County. 

The second victim was 42-year-old Claudine Anne Luera, who was found shot in the head badly wounded on a rural roadway.  She later died of her injuries. 

According to the report, Ortiz then picked up Erika Pena, who managed to escape his truck and get help at a convenience store. 

Authorities say there were more victims who have not yet been identified.  

Investigators are still looking for a motive.
