Friday Morning Drug Sweep Nets 18 Arrests
COLEMAN, TX -- More than 30 law enforcement officers from 11 departments fanned out across the city of Coleman early Friday, September 14, in a drug sweep which netted numerous arrests. According to a press release, Coleman Police Chief Anthony Smith said there were 29 sealed indictments which were unsealed and served. "The sweep started a little after 6:00 am with all arrests made without incident by 8:30 am," Smith said.
"A total of 18 people were taken into custody. Three on the indictment list have not yet been arrested but three additional suspects were arrested on new charges," Smith said.
Those arrested were taken to the courtroom of the Coleman County Courthouse for booking. Workers with Child Protective Services were present to take custody of three children whose parents were arrested. The investigation, which started in May and went through August, was lead by Coleman PD Detective Randall Jacks.
Officers making the arrests were from the Coleman Police Department, Coleman County Sheriff's Department, Coleman Park Police, Coleman ISD Police, Santa Anna Police Department, Winters Police Department, Ballinger Police Department, Runnels County Sheriff's Department, Brownwood Police Department, Brown County Sheriff's Department and DPS Criminal Investigation Division.
Smith said the investigation involved all of his department, including dispatchers. Names of those arrested will be released by Coleman PD at a later time.
