SAN ANGELO, TX-- (SAPD Press Release) Just after 11:00 p.m. on September 10, 2018, a San Angelo Police Patrol Sergeant detained a man for parking in a designated disabled parking area at the Allsup’s located at 514 N. Main Street.
During the detention it was discovered that the driver, identified as 31-year-old David Ellichman of San Angelo, had warrants. Soon after, a responding backup Officer observed a gun case on the passenger floorboard.
As Officers attempted to arrest Ellichman for his warrants, Ellichman refused to exit his vehicle and used his extremities to wedge himself inside. A struggle ensued and only diminished after a Taser deployment allowed Officers to remove Ellichman from the vehicle. Once out of the vehicle, Ellichman continued to actively resist the Officers and additional Taser deployments were utilized. Ellichman was eventually handcuffed with assistance from additional responding Officers and it is believed Ellichman was intoxicated on an unknown substance.
K-9 Officer Fincher utilized his partner, Police Service Dog Xander, to conduct an open-air sniff around Ellichman’s white 2002 Buick Lesabre. During the sniff, Xander alerted to the presence of contraband. During a search of the vehicle, Officers located a quantity of suspected Heroin, Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a stolen firearm. In addition to the stolen firearm and narcotics, Officers also located and seized various items of jewelry, phones, and watches that are suspected as stolen. The firearm had been reported stolen from a vehicle burglary on S. Madison Street that morning.
Ellichman was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident and subsequently charged with Prohibited Weapon, two counts of Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, and Resisting Arrest Search or Transport.
