Sheriff: Elderly Woman Murdered North of Abilene

 

ABILENE, TX — The Texas Rangers are assisting the Jones County Sheriff’s Office in a murder investigation after a Hamlin woman was assaulted and killed Friday.

According to KTXS, the Sheriff was called to a house off County Road 130 near Hamlin Friday afternoon where they found Alice Brigham, 66, badly injured. She was rushed to Hamlin Memorial Hospital where she later died.

Shortly thereafter, the Sheriff identified a suspect named Mitchel Glen Butler, 39, of Hamlin.

Butler was arrested overnight in Eastland County, KTXS reported this morning.

In an interview with KTXS, the father of the victim, James Brigham, said his daughter Alice, who he affectionately called Sissy, was “beat somethin’ awful.”

Details of Butler’s arrest are pending.
