Vape Shop in Merkel Shuts Down Amid Alleged Illegal Gambling

MERKEL, TX-- A vape shop in Merkel has been shut down due to possible illegal gambling, according to a report from KTXS.

According to the report, Icon Vape and Apparel in Merkel was issued a cease and desist letter on Saturday around 10:30 a.m. after Merkel police received multiple tips that the shop was running illegal gambling.

The letter sent to the shop reportedly advised them of the state’s laws on gambling and requested that any employees stop their involvement in the operation.

The report states that Icon Vape is accused of using “9-line’ game rooms and machines” and a sign has been put on the front door saying the shop is closed.

“It's a pretty clear indication that there may have been some things that they may need to reevaluate and make sure that they were functioning within the perimeters of the law,” said Interim Chief of Police Phillip Conklin with the Merkel Police Department to KTXS.

No arrests have been made so far.
