Man Guilty of Murdering His Girlfriend Sentenced to Prison

 

Update: 7/13/2018 1:20 p.m. BAIRD, TX -- A six man and six woman jury in Callahan County sentenced Bennett to 70 years in prison for murdering his girlfriend.  

KTXS is reporting Bennett and his other girlfriend drove Dearman to the lake near Baird where he strangled her with a shoe lace.  The jury also assessed a $10,000 fine.

Prosecutors played phone conversations between Bennett and his other girlfriend in which he said he would, "kick that b**** in the throat."   

ABILENE, TX -- A Taylor County juror found an Abilene man guilty of murder Thursday afternoon after about four hours of deliberation. 

KTXS is reporting 34-year-old Justin Bennett was found guilty of murdering Meagan Dearman, one of his girlfriends, by strangling her with a shoe lace. 

Bennett then dumped her body at a lake near Baird, TX.

Closing arguments were Thursday morning.  Jurors are deliberating his sentence now.  

Murder is punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison.
