Man Arrested in Slow-Speed Chase Facing Federal Drug & Weapons Charges

SAN ANGELO, TX — (Press Release) On Thursday, July investigators with the San Angelo Police Department’s Street Crimes Division were actively searching for Alonso Arredondo, 40 — a San Angelo resident recently indicted in the U.S. Northern District Court of Texas for drug and weapons charges stemming from multiple ongoing investigations that have led to the seizure of nearly twenty-one guns, approximately twelve ounces of suspected Methamphetamine, a vehicle, and approximately $14,000 in U.S. Currency.

Just before 2:30 p.m. yesterday, Investigators observed Arredondo traveling with an unknown female in a gray Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Patrol units were also deployed to assist with Arredondo’s apprehension and a traffic stop was initiated near the 400 block of the E. Houston Harte Expressway; however, Arredondo failed to stop and a slow-speed vehicle pursuit ensued.

The pursuit concluded in the 900 block of E. 23rd after Arredondo came to a stop in a private driveway.  Arredondo was taken into custody and transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.  He has since been transferred to another detention facility to await his Federal Court appearance.  A 28-year-old female companion was detained during the investigation and later released.

During the field investigation officers located a loaded firearm and a First Degree Felony amount of suspected Methamphetamine.

This is another successful outcome for Street Crimes Division Investigators who are dedicated to making a positive impact on local illicit drug trafficking and decreasing the availability of controlled substances in San Angelo.
