UPDATED 7/3/2018 9:20 p.m. San Angelo Police Department Investigators are still working on evidence in the suspicious death of the person found dead in the burned out apartment on Arden Rd.
SAN ANGELO, TX — (Press Release) Investigators with the San Angelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division along with the San Angelo Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a suspicious death and arson that occurred at the Arden Ridge Apartments located at 3801 Arden Road on Monday, July 2, 2018.
Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the location just before 1:40 p.m. for the report of an active structure fire. Upon arrival, First Responders engaged the burning apartment. A deceased male subject was located inside and subsequently removed from the fire. An examination of the body revealed injuries to the victim that are inconsistent with those incurred in a fire. Justice of the Peace J.P. McGuire responded to the scene and formally pronounced the victim deceased. An autopsy was ordered.
The victim has been identified as Miguel Mendez, 59, of Roswell, New Mexico. Mendez was reportedly working construction in the San Angelo area and sharing the residence with his fellow construction workers.
