One Dead After Motorcycle Crash in Big Spring

 

BIG SPRING, TX — On Wednesday, a Big Spring Police Department officer was traveling eastbound approaching the intersection of FM 700 and Goliad, when he witnessed a red and black 2017 Honda CBR 600R motorcycle was driving recklessly.

The officer noted that the driver of the motorcycle was driving recklessly and failed to signal his intension to make a left turn on to Goliad.

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop by activating his lights and sirens, but the driver of the motorcycle sped away refusing to stop.

According to the Big Spring Police Department, the motorcycle was also being ridden by a female passenger. The driver of the motorcycle evaded officers north on Goliad to E. 3rd St. and then west on E. 3rd until wrecking the motorcycle in the 2000 block of East 3rd St.  

The officers arrived at the wreck and identified the driver of the motorcycle to be Austin Ryan Cantu, 22. He was found deceased at the scene as a result of the crash.

The female passenger was identified as Ellen Alexandra Vasquez, 27, was found to be in serious condition and was transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center for treatment. The female was later flown by helicopter to University Medical Center Lubbock and as of this morning Mrs. Vasquez was in serious condition, according to Big Spring police. The extent of her injuries are still unknown at this time.
