Ex-Daycare Director Turns Self In for Failure to Report Child Sexual Abuse

ABILENE, TX — Amanda McKee, the former director of Wylie Baptist Church’s Child Development Center in Abilene, turned herself in and has been released on bond.

McKee is charged with failure to report suspected child abuse after a former employee at the daycare, Benjamin Russell Roberts, was arrested and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, indecency with a child, and possession of child pornography.

According to KTXS 12, court documents showed that “parents and employees both warned McKee on a number of occasions about Benjamin Roberts’ behavior, including being aroused when kids sat on his lap.”

McKee’s attorney reached out to KTXS and said “the accusation is that she knew these kids were being abused and failed to report it. We will certainly be contesting that vigorously.”

The charge of failure to report suspected child abuse is a Class A misdemeanor and is punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
