SAN ANGELO, TX — (SAPD Press Release) At approximately 8:33 p.m. on May 10, 2018, San Angelo Police conducted a traffic stop on a silver colored 2009 Mitsubishi passenger car in the 100 block of S. Lincoln.
The driver, identified as Edward Haur Crisp, Jr., 27, fled the stop in his vehicle and a brief pursuit ensued. Officers disengaged the pursuit for safety reasons and later obtained an arrest warrant for Crisp for Evading Detention with Vehicle.
At approximately 8:40 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Public Safety Communications received multiple calls concerning a shirtless Hispanic male that was walking around the unit block of E. 33 Street, looking into cars and walking into nearby alleyways to look inside houses.
After responding and searching the area, an Officer observed a subject that matched the callers’ descriptions in the 100 block of E. 33rd. The Officer activated his patrol unit’s overhead lights and attempted to detain the man; however, the man looked at the Officer and fled into a nearby alley.
Additional responding Officers quickly established a perimeter and several onlookers flagged down Officers to advise them of the fleeing suspect’s location.
Soon after, Officers observed the suspect, later identified as Crisp, jumping a fence into the backyard of a residence in the 300 block of E. 37th Street. After clearing the backyard, a witness told officers the house should be vacant; however, Officers observed Crisp inside the house through a window.
Officers entered the house, located Crisp and attempted to take him into custody but Crisp began to fight and actively resist his arrest. Several Officers had to assist with the apprehension due to Crisp’s combative behavior inside the residence and during his escort to a patrol vehicle. Officers administered a Rip-Hobble to assist with safe transport to the Tom Green County Jail due to Crisp’s documented past violence.
In addition to the Arrest Warrant, Crisp was charged with Evading Arrest Detention, Evading Arrest Detention with Prior Conviction, and Resist Arrest Search or Transport.
Crisp, the same suspect that injured several officers during a criminal trespass call at Pediatric Dentistry of San Angelo on May 9, 2018, has also been the subject of concern after several sightings in San Angelo’s Central neighborhood where Crisp has a court ordered Emergency Protective order due to a recent family violence assault.
