RANGER, TX-- A Ranger College student-athlete was arrested and placed in the Eastland County Jail on Tuesday after an alleged sexual assault of a fellow student this past weekend, KTXS News has reported.

Joey Hernandez, 20, of Bastrop was the suspect arrested on Tuesday, according to the Eastland County Sheriff's Office. Hernandez is listed as a member of the Ranger College Cross Country team on the school's athletic website.

The Ranger Police Department told KTXS that Hernandez was in fact a current student and that the alleged incident happened on campus.

Ranger College President Dr. Bill Campion told KTXS the school is “investigating a complaint in full partnership with the Ranger Police Department."

"With student safety as our number one priority, Ranger College is committed to protecting the rights of all students," Dr. Champion said in a statement.

Ranger Police said the age of the victim will not be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
