San Angelo PD Releases Results from Latest LIDAR Operation

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Yesterday afternoon, the San Angelo Police Department’s Traffic Section partnered with the Department of Public Safety to conduct a LIDAR Traffic Enforcement Operation in the eastbound lanes of the 2200 block of W. Houston Harte Expressway.

Officers issued a total of 73 citations and warnings during the operation.

Breakdown for citations:

  • Fail to Move Over/Slow Down for Active Emergency Vehicles: 4
  • Speeding: 49 (Highest speed 87 MPH)
  • Driving While License Invalid: 3
  • Other/Misc. Violations: 11
  • No Driver’s License: 4
  • No Insurance: 1
  • Warnings: 5

As a reminder, the Texas Transportation Code requires motorists nearing stopped emergency vehicles with lights activated to vacate the lane closest to the stopped vehicle (if there is more than one available lane in the same direction of travel) or slow to 20 miles below the speed limit.

Failing to take these actions endangers personnel who provide critical and life-saving services.  Violation of this law could result in fines up to $200.  The punishment is more severe if there is property damage, and jail time is possible if someone is injured.
