Dog Dies, Man Injured in Early Morning Shooting on VolneyPress Release
SAN ANGELO, TX. — At approximately 12:55 this morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the area of East 11 and Volney Streets for the report of a shooting victim.
Upon arrival, Officers located a 45-year-old man bleeding profusely from the arm, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers immediately applied a Combat Application Tourniquet and successfully stopped the bleeding before San Angelo Fire Department Medics arrived and transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury. The victim was later released.
Officers on scene spoke with several witnesses and learned the suspect, identified as Efren L. Delatorre, 35, fled the scene to a nearby residence. Soon after, Delatorre was located at a residence in the 1200 block of Volney Street. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Police Headquarters for interview.
Subsequent to the field investigation, Detectives with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division learned Delatorre, an acquaintance of the victim, had gone to the victim’s residence and shot and killed the victim’s dog prior to shooting the victim. Delatorre also pointed his gun at the victim’s 41-year-old female acquaintance; however, she avoided injury.
Later this morning, Investigators obtained a Search Warrant for the residence on Volney and consequently located and seized the suspected gun used in the shooting.
Delatorre is facing two counts of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon and Cruelty Non-Livestock Animal Kill/Poison/Serious Bodily Injury.
