Ellis County School Shooting Results in One Injured

ELLIS COUNTY, TX. -- The Ellis County Sheriff's Office has a 16-year-old male student in custody after a school shooting Monday morning that left a 15-year-old shot, according to WFAA

The sheriff's office said that just before 8:00 a.m., an active shooter was reported at Italy High School in Italy, Texas. A 16-year-old male suspect was taken into custody without incident after shooting the 15-year-old girl, officials said.

The girl was taken by helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital. Her condition has not yet been released.

"This is a trying time for our community and our school," Superintendent Lee Joffre said in a press conference. He also informed the community that counselors will be provided on campus to speak with students.

The sheriff's office tweeted at about 9:00 a.m. that students are "being moved, under guard to the dome as the investigation continues." It was later determined that the students were taken to Stafford Elementary and will be reunited with their parents soon.

Assisting Italy PD and DPS is the Ellis County Sheriff Office, Hill County Sheriff Office, and the Texas Rangers. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be shared as becomes available.
