Former Dyess AFB Deputy Fire Chief Arrested After Seeking an Underage Lover on CraigsList

ABILENE, TX — In April, a now-retired Dyess Air Force Base civilian employee posted an ad on Craigslist, an online classified ad platform with a lively “personals” section, seeking an underage female, via a mother-daughter couple, for a threesome tryst. An undercover detective with Homeland Security Investigations answered the ad as part of an undercover sting operation, the Abilene Police Department announced Monday afternoon.

As a result of an investigation that involves multiple agencies that began over 6 months ago, Floyd Anthony Jones, 56, was arrested Monday on charges connected with his Craigslist ad in April.

According to police, the HSI agent held a number of online conversations, chats, and phone calls with the now-retired deputy fire chief, most of them quite explicit.

After a comfort level between the parties was gained over about two months of online and voice conversations, Jones agreed to meet who he thought was a woman who would facilitate his fantasy with her daughter.  The agent presented herself as a mother who was a guardian of a 13-14-year-old. The meeting, set for a day in June, never happened. Perhaps Jones got cold feet. Abilene PD said he “abandoned” the meeting.

According court documents that KTXS uncovered, Jones referred to "past experiences he has had with mothers and underage daughters."

Jones also "described his desire to take the child's virginity," KTXS reported.

Jones retired from his position at Dyess at the beginning of the Thanksgiving break, KTXS reported a Dyess AFB official telling them.

After the meeting attempt failed in June, the HSI investigation was transferred to the U.S. Air Force Office of Investigations and the FBI.

Then, in November, the Abilene PD Cyber Crimes Unit was contacted by the FBI about the case. In coordination with the Taylor County District Attorney, a search warrant for Jones’ residence was ordered Sunday, and an arrest warrant was issued Monday.

Early Monday morning, Abilene PD detectives, assisted by the FBI and OSI agents executed the search warrant and found Jones there. He was arrested without incident.

Jones was charged with Online Solicitation of a Minor and Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. The latter charge was for the bragging Jones did when communicating in chats and phone calls with the HSI detective posing as a mother of a daughter Jones was targeting way back in April. Abilene PD characterized the conversations as containing a “specific description of the sexual assault” volunteered by Jones to the undercover agent.

Abilene PD said the description of the assault was so specific that authorities are concerned for the safety of potential victims who may have been assaulted by Jones.

At Jones’ residence in southwest Abilene, police seized various electronic devices and will be reviewing the contents over the next few days.

Abilene PD did not state they knew of a specific victim, or all of the victims, of Jones’. For that, they are reaching out to the public for any clues about who may have been victimized by Jones.

Jones is out of Taylor County Jail as of today on a $25,000 bond.
