Brackettville Border Patrol Arrest Wanted Gang Member

DEL RIO, TX – U.S. Border Patrol agents in Brackettville arrested a gang member wanted in connection with a violent crime.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brackettville Station encountered Jose Santiago Mendez-Avalos, 41, on Sept. 14, as he crossed a remote ranch. Agents determined he was in the country illegally. During processing, it was revealed that he is wanted in Seguin related to a conviction for assault with a deadly weapon. Agents also discovered that Mendez-Avalos is an active gang member and has an extensive criminal history.

Mendez-Avalos faces a charge of  8 USC § 1326, illegal re-entry after deportation which carries a sentence of two years in prison.

“This arrest is another reminder of the dangerous individuals agents encounter while performing their duties,” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “I commend our agents for their vigilance in keeping dangerous criminals from re-entering our communities.”
