$27,000 Embezzled from the Abilene Firefighters Association Funds

ABILENE, TX -- A member of the Abilene Professional Fire Fighters Association (APFFA) is accused of making an unauthorized withdrawal from association funds.

The discovery of the stolen funds was seen after reviewing bank statements. According to a police incident report, the member admitted to stealing $27,000.

APFFA President Jimmy Hall told KTXS the charges against the unnamed individual will be pursued, but the association won't identify the member until charges are filed.

The suspect hasn't been arrested at this time.

The alleged embezzlement is thought to have happened between July 2014 and Wednesday, Aug. 16.

“We are deeply saddened by this breach of trust," the association said in a statement. "We wish to assure our members and the community that this breach does not affect our ability to operate and that steps have been taken to protect our viability.”

APFFA said the appropriate steps have been taken to uphold finical responsibility and handling of funds in the future.
