SAN ANGELO, TX — Police were able to apprehend two suspects in an apartment burglary Thursday morning after a brief manhunt.
At 9 a.m., San Angelo police dispatch received a report of a burglary in progress at an apartment in the Resort at Riverside Apartments, 3302 N. Bryant, in north San Angelo. As the first police officers were arriving, they witnessed suspects leaving the apartment.
One of the suspects fled on foot. Police quickly established a perimeter and brought in every available officer, to include investigators attached to the Criminal Investigations Division.
“Officers put eyes on the suspect running through a nearby neighborhood,” SAPD spokeswoman Tracy Gonzalez said. A chase ensued through a field thick with cactus and brush until the suspect was caught in the 3500 block of Lake Dr. “Unfortunately, the suspect didn’t get the winning side of the cactus,” Gonzalez said.
The 38-year-old male suspect gave up due to exhaustion and injuries sustained running through the cactus. He was handed over to San Angelo EMS for treatment of injuries. In the meantime, police discovered the suspect had several outstanding warrants.
Once the suspect is released from care of EMS at the scene, Gonzalez said he would be booked into the Tom Green County Jail for outstanding warrants. Additional charges will likely be added from this morning’s burglary, but it is too early in the investigation to say what those charges may be, Gonzalez said.
Also arrested was a female. Gonzalez did not have any other information on her yet.
Gonzalez said the burglary was thwarted because of excellent coordination between all parties. “This is exactly what we want for every call. We had a quick response; excellent information was given to dispatch who relayed that information to responding officers. Everyone worked in concert to win a swift apprehension,” she said.
