BROWNWOOD, TX – A woman charged for aggravated robbery of a cemetery has had her trial postponed for four months.
Tisha Pruett, 44, is accused of unlawfully acquiring more than $20,000 but less than $100,000 from July 3, 2014 to Dec. 29, 2014 as an employee at Greenleaf Cemetery, her indictment stated.
Pruett served as the office manager for the nearly 150-year-old Brownwood cemetery.
The 35th Judicial District Court appointed a new attorney to represent Pruett, moving her trial date from June 19 to Oct. 2. Her new lawyer is Patrick Howard.
The missing money from the theft has placed the cemetery in a financial bind, according to a local news source.
Current Greenleaf Cemetery Office Manager Freda Day said she doesn't know the exact amount Pruett allegedly stole because of problems with record keeping.
On May 25 the Greenleaf Cemetery Board of Directors submitted a victim's impact statement to 35th Judicial District Attorney Micheal Murray's office.
The district attorney was requested to give Pruett probation as opposed to jail time on the condition that she pays restitution to the cemetery.
