SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -- Around 6 p.m. this evening, San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) officers responded to the 700 block of E. Harris for a shots fired call.
According to an on-scene LIVE! reporter, police are currently investigating an accidental shooting of a juvenile. It has been confirmed that the juvenile was taken to Shannon Medical Hospital for unknown injuries.
LIVE! will provide an update once more information becomes available.

Sergeant Moore with the SAPD confirmed in a statement that a child, younger than 5-year-of-age, was accidentally shot in a residence in the 700 block of E. Harris Street around 6 p.m. this evening.
The child was rushed to the hospital by personal vehicle and was gone by the time officers arrived on scene, Sgt. Moore said. As of right now, the police have not released the name of the child or family. The child is alive at this time, however, the severity of the injuries are still unknown.
At this time, a detective is en-route to the scene to continue investigation.

Detectives with the San Angelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Child Crimes Unit are continuing their investigation of an apparent accidental shooting of a child at a residence on E. Harris Avenue Monday night.
Just after 6:00 p.m. on May 22, 2017, San Angelo Police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of E. Harris for the report of a shooting victim, read a SAPD press release.
Officers arrived and learned the shooting victim, a 3-year-old male, had been transported by private vehicle to Shannon Medical Center. The child was later flown to Cook’s Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas for further treatment. At the time of this release, the child was reported to be in stable condition.
Through further investigation, detectives discovered that the victim was in the living room with several family members when the victim retrieved a loaded handgun from the couch and shot himself in the face. No other family members were injured.
The Department’s Crime Scene Investigations Unit and Child Protective Services also responded to the scene.
This is an active investigation and no further information is available for release. Charges are forthcoming pending the outcome of this investigation.
