DEL RIO, TX – Border Patrol agents of the Eagle Pass South Office have been busy this past weekend. From May 12 to May 15, Border Patrol Agents seized $2,110, 476 worth of narcotics in four separate incidents that led to 6 individuals being arrested and turned over to the DEA for federal prosecution.
The first arrest was made on Friday after a 23-year-old U.S Citizen form Piedras Negras was caught with 14.5 pounds of cocaine. The cocaine had a street value of $466, 880. The seizure was made at the Highway 57 checkpoint.
A short while later, at the same checkpoint, two females, both U.S. Citizens, were found trying to smuggle 7.6 lbs. of heroin. The street value was estimated at $244,100. The females were 22 and 18 years old.
On Sunday, at the same Highway 57 checkpoint, a third arrest occurred. This time a 41-year-old Mexican national form Frontera, Coahuila, Mexico was arrested after agents found over 41 pounds of cocaine in the 41-year-olds vehicle. The cocaine had a street worth of $1, 339,520.
The final arrest was conducted this past Monday, when agents seized 74.9 lbs. of marijuana. The discovery was made after agents tracked footprints that led them to two Mexican nationals with duffel bags. The seize is approximately worth $59,976 when distributed for sale.
During the 2017 Fiscal Year, the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector has seized more than $10.5 million worth of narcotics.
