EAGLE PASS, TX – Over a span of four days, U.S. Border Patrol agents seized over 1,056 pounds of narcotics in different areas of the border. The drugs, with an estimated street value of $845,200, were located in remote and rural areas.
“Narcotics smugglers aggressively attempt to move their dangerous product into the United States and will employ any means to do so,” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak.
The first seizure was made on February 24 when agents followed a set of footprints into a ranch north of the city and discovered 352.8 pounds of marijuana with a $282,240 value in six duffel bags.
The second came on the same day when agents from the Eagle Pass South Station located $284,000 worth of marijuana in another six duffel bags. The 355 pounds were found in a remote area, south of the city.
The last seizure was made on February 27 when agents from the Eagle Pass Station were tracking suspected smugglers for two days. They discovered seven duffel bags with 348.7 pounds of marijuana. The street value is estimated at $278,960.
“Thanks to the hard work of Del Rio Sector agents,” Hudak said, “a costly blow was dealt to these criminal organizations in a short amount of time, ultimately preventing these drugs from entering our country.”
No suspects were apprehended with the discovery of the duffel bags. Since the beginning of the fiscal year on October 1, 2016, the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector had seized over $6.6 million worth of narcotics.
