Brady Police Arrest Wanted Felon After Routine Traffic Stop

BRADY, TX – After a routine traffic stop, Brady Police arrested Ricky Joe Benavidez, 49, who had an outstanding Felony warrant issued by the Texas Pardons and Parole office.

According to a press release, Benavidez told the officers his wallet had been stolen and provided them with an alternate name and birth date.

After checking the information, the officer determined that no license or identification card had been issued to anyone with these identifiers. During the investigation, the officer also discovered that an individual with similar identifying information was currently wanted after receiving “excessive DWI convictions.”

Since the suspect's identity couldn't be determined, he was taken into custody.

During a safety search, officers identified him as the same 49-year-old Ricky Joe Benavidez who had an outstanding warrant. He was arrested and transported to the McCulloch County Jail for booking with a charge for Failure to Identify/Fugitive from Justice (a Class A Misdemeanor) for providing the false information.
