SAN ANGELO, TX – Over the holiday weekend, local law enforcement arrested 62 people. One of those arrests came out of Irion County.
Irion County Sheriff W. A. Estes said, on Dec. 26, 20-year-old Roberto Rios-Aviles was pulled over for a traffic stop. During the process of the investigation, he was found in possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces. However, Rios-Aviles had an outstanding warrant for Smuggling of Persons out of Goliad County, and his bond is set for $20,000.
Sheriff Estes said Rios-Aviles will face the possession of marijuana charge first, then he will be transferred to Goliad to deal with the outstanding warrant.
On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, two men, Charles Mark Staton, 52, and John Christopher Dick, 42, were arrested for shoplifting and criminal trespass and harassment.
The San Angelo Police Department said officers were dispatched at 5:45 p.m. on Christmas Eve to HEB, 3301 Sherwood Way, for the report of a shoplifter causing problems. Officers arrested Staton for Theft of Property >=$100<$750.
On Christmas Day, at around 12:15 p.m., police dispatched to the 900 block of E. Harris Avenue for the report of a burglary in progress. Officers arrested Dick for Harassment and Criminal Trespass.
Dick was released that same day on two $500 bonds.
Also included in this weekend’s arrests were Willie D. Bowman, 53, and Verdell Lewis, Jr., 58, arrested for Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon. For more details on that arrest, click here.
Another person released over the weekend was 35-year-old Geovanni Severin, who was previously arrested for Online Solicitation of a Minor. He made bond for $20,000. For that story, click here.
Out of the 62 arrests made this weekend, 32 people had new complaints, 10 had both outstanding warrants and new complaints, and 20 people went to the TGCJ for outstanding warrants.
