SAPD Discover and Recover Stolen Vehicle While Investigating Unrelated Incident

SAN ANGELO, TX - At around 2:45 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Police Patrol Officer R. Espinoza was patrolling in the 600 block of San Jacinto. He was attempting to locate a stolen vehicle from an unrelated incident when he observed a beige PT Cruiser blocking the alley.

SAPD Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez said Officer Espinoza observed a male driver exit the vehicle and walk away.

"Officer Espinoza made contact with the vehicle, which was unoccupied, and discovered it had been reported stolen on November 30, 2016 from a residential burglary in the 800 block of Paint Rock Road," said Officer Gonzalez.

She added that Officer Espinoza located the male as he exited a nearby residence and detained him. The Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene for further investigation.

"Subsequent to the field investigation, Detectives learned the driver had borrowed the vehicle from another person and was not charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle," said Gonzalez.

The 2006 PT Cruiser was released to the registered owner at the scene.

The suspect of the Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle case is still at large and Investigators are pursuing leads.
