Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Agents Seize 1,100 Pounds of Narcotics

 

DEL RIO, TX - Del Rio Sector U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than 1,100 pounds of narcotics, valued over $950,679 in six different incidents, apprehending a total of six subjects.

According to a press release, on Oct. 2, at approximately 2 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Border Patrol Station conducted a vehicle stop on a Ford F-250 pickup truck near Normandy and arrested a 41-year-old Mexican national with over 231 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $185,360. The subject faces a charge of illegal re-entry into the United States.

On Oct. 25, at approximately 9 a.m., Del Rio Border Patrol agents conducted another vehicle stop on a 2007 Dodge Crossover in Del Rio and arrested two juvenile males with over 43 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $33,863. Both individuals were turned over to the Val Verde County Sheriff's Office, said officials.

On Oct. 27, at approximately 6 p.m., Eagle Pass Border Patrol Agents conducting linewatch operations responded to suspicious activity near Eagle Pass and discovered four abandoned military-style duffel bags containing over 182 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $146,320.

On Oct. 29, at approximately 6 p.m., agents from the Uvalde Border Patrol Station, also conducting linewatch operations, responded to suspicious activity near Uvalde and discovered five abandoned military-style duffel bags containing over 227 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $182,320.

On Nov. 7, at approximately 7 p.m., Uvalde Border Patrol agents conducting linewatch operations responded to suspicious activity off Highway 481, near Uvalde. After searching the area, agents discovered seven abandoned military-style duffel bags containing over 388 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $310,400.

Finally, on Nov. 14, at approximately 12 a.m., agents from the Comstock Border Patrol Station, conducting linewatch operations, responded to suspicious activity near Comstock. After searching the area, agents apprehended one adult and two juveniles from Mexico with two large rectangular bags containing over 115 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $92,416. The adult male was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The two juveniles were turned over to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

"Seized contraband was turned over to DEA," said Border Patrol officials.

For Fiscal Year 2017, which began on Oct. 1, 2016, the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector has seized more than $2.7 million worth of narcotics, said the press release. The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
