Abilene Movie Money Counterfeiters Arrested

ABILENE, TX - According to an Abilene Police Department press release, officials apprehended three suspects on Saturday, November 19, for their involvement in the distribution of counterfeit money.

The trio, Brandi Mullany, 29, Sean McNamara, 33, Brian Guilliams, 26, were arrested after the Abilene PD Fraud Unit determined they were directly involved in the crime.

Over the past few weeks, counterfeit money, specifically money used in movies, had been circling in local business. The bills appear very similar to real money, but have a different texture and contain text that identifies it as “For Motion Picture Use Only.”

After conducting a search of the hotel room where the trio was staying at, officials discovered nearly $1,200 in fake currency and the merchandise purchased with the money previously. Over 25 fraud cases involved the motion picture currency.

The suspects were all charged with a variety of crimes. Mullany is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and State Jail Felony Possession of Meth. McNamara is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, State Jail Felony Possession of Meth and other charges. Guilliams is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and State Jail Felony Possession of Meth.

Abilene merchants are urged to contact PD if they encounter the counterfeit money by calling (325)673-8331.
