Sonora Teen and Two Young People Indicted on Serious Felony Charges

SAN ANGELO, TX – A Tom Green County grand jury met on November 2 and handed down 78 indictments on various crimes. Drugs, burglaries and thefts topped the list of indictments, but, as usual, a few cases stand out--cases where young people are facing serious charges.

Sonora Teen Indicted for Sexual Assault

Included in this month’s indictments is 18-year-old Joseph Taylor Absher, whose address is listed in Sonora, Texas.

According to the indictment, on or about March 24, 2016, Absher “intentionally and knowingly” caused the penetration of “the sexual organ” of a female victim without her consent.

As a result, Absher faces Sexual Assault, a second degree felony. His bond is set at $20,000.

This is Absher’s first crime committed in Tom Green County.

Young Duo Indicted for Aggravated Kidnapping and Attempted Aggravated Robbery

Also this month, Sherrod Malik Wilder, 20, and Taryn Makia Espinosa, 19, were indicted for Aggravated Kidnapping and Attempt to Commit Aggravated Robbery

According to their indictments, Wilder and Espinosa, on or about July 19, 2015, “intentionally and knowingly” abducted a juvenile by restricting the movements of the complainant without his consent, so “as to interfere substantially with his liberation, by using or threatening to use deadly force, namely, threatening him with a firearm.”

The duo’s specific intent was to commit the offense of aggravated robbery by taking the juvenile to his bank and having him fill out a withdrawal slip while threatening the victim with the firearm.

The Aggravated Kidnapping charges are first degree felonies, and the Aggravated Robbery charges are second degree felonies. Both Wilder and Espinosa’s bonds are set at $25,000.

Wilder has been arrested 10 times in Tom Green County. Espinosa has five arrests in TGC.
