Sex Offender Apprehended on the Border

SAN ANGELO, TX - On October 3, U.S Border Patrol agents apprehended a suspect who attempted to enter the country near Carrizo Springs. Further investigation led the agents to discover the suspect's previous conviction of sexual assault with a child.

The suspect, Juan Fernando Yanez-Lopez, was convicted of second-degree felony sexual assault with a child in Union County, Arkansas. Yanez-Lopez was released on April 22, 2010 after serving 96 months in prison.

Yanez-Lopez will face a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation, which could place him in prison for up to 20 years.

”Our agents work diligently to ensure criminals do not enter our country” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “This arrest demonstrates the hard work and commitment our agents display every day to protect our communities.”
