Big Spring Woman Dies After Domestic Disturbance

BIG SPRING, TX - Yesterday, local news sources and the Big Spring Police Department reported the death of Irma Lozano due to injuries received by her daughter's ex-boyfriend.

According to one news source, Abel Torres, 28, went to the home of his ex-girlfriend who lived with Lozano. Big Spring Police were told that an argument ensued between the two, and the man became violent.

Apparently, Lozano tried to intervene on behalf of her daughter when Torres allegedly turned to her and shoved her to the ground. Lozano lost consciousness, and Torres fled on foot.

Officials said Lozano was taken by ambulance to the hospital, and was flown to a Lubbock hospital with a serious head injury.

Big Spring Police, on their Facebook page, indicated that at approximately 6:08 p.m., detectives were notified that Lozano was taken off of life support and died as a result of her injuries sustained by Torres.

"Detectives have confirmed this with University Medical Center and found time of death to be 6:23 p.m.," said Big Spring Police. "The charge against Torres has been enhanced to murder. He remains in custody at the Howard County Detention Center and is awaiting arraignment. The Big Spring Police Department sends our condolences to the Lozano family. This murder investigation is ongoing and we will be unable to release any further details regarding this incident."

Later, officers found Torres hiding in the closet at a friend’s home near the crime scene. He was originally arrested and charged with aggravated assault, but as stated, his charges have been increased to murder. Torres remains in custody at the Howard County Detention Center where he is awaiting arraignment.
