CBP Officers Seize $1.4 Million Worth of Meth at Border

DEL RIO, TX - U.S. Customs and Border Protection(CBP) officers at the Del Rio International Bridge recently discovered more than $1 million worth of suspected narcotics hidden in a vehicle coming from Mexico, said a press release.

According to the release, on Aug. 27, CBP officers working at the Del Rio Port of Entry encountered a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck as it arrived in the United States from Mexico. Upon inspection, CBP officers discovered packages hidden inside the bed of the vehicle. Officers seized 71.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, worth an estimated $1,430,344.

The driver, a 37-year-old man from Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for federal prosecution.

“The dedication of our frontline CBP officers kept this load of dangerous narcotics from entering our country,” said Port Director Alberto D. Perez, Del Rio Port of Entry. “This seizure is a fine example of the training and experience these officers employ to keep our communities safe.”

CBP’s Del Rio Port of Entry is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
