Most Wanted Texas Mexican Mafia Gang Member Captured

AUSTIN, TX – A Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and Texas Mexican Mafia gang member Johnny Garcia, 35, is now in custody after being captured Friday in San Antonio, said DPS officials.

Garcia was wanted for parole violation and kidnapping. DPS confirmed this arrest was not the result of tip information received through Texas Crime Stoppers, and no reward will be paid.

"Working off investigative information, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force – assisted by officers from the San Antonio Police Department Repeat Offenders Program – located and arrested Garcia without incident at a residence in south San Antonio," said DPS.

Garcia’s criminal history includes convictions for assault, weapons offenses and drugs. In 2009, Garcia was also convicted of assaulting a public servant (corrections officer) while he was incarcerated in 2006. He was paroled in 2014, and had been wanted since April of this year. For more information about his arrest, see his captured bulletin here.

So far in 2016, DPS and other agencies have arrested 12 Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders, including seven sex offenders and five gang members. The agency has paid $18,500 in rewards for tips that resulted in arrests.

To be eligible for the cash rewards, tipsters must provide information to authorities using one of the five following methods:

  • Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
  • Text the letters “DPS” – followed by your tip – to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
  • Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.
  • Submit a Facebook tip at http://www.facebook.com/texas10most… by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link (under the “About” section).
  • Submit a tip through the DPS mobile app. The app is currently available for iPhone users on the Apple App Store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tex…) and for Android users on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/…).

All tips are anonymous regardless of how they are submitted, and tipsters will be provided a tip number instead of using a name.

DPS investigators work with local law enforcement agencies to select fugitives featured in the Texas 10 Most Wanted Program. To view the current lists, with photos, visit the DPS website at http://www.dps.texas.gov/texas10mos….
