Texas Rangers Investigate Jones County Murder

 

The Texas Rangers are investigating the murder of a 31-year-old Abilene man.

DPS officials said on the morning of Aug. 2, Jones County Deputies located a deceased male, later identified as Ronald Michael Varner, 31, of Abilene, lying on CR 347 in southern Jones County.

The Texas rangers were contacted and responded to the scene. Apparently, Varner had been shot. 

According to news sources in the Abilene area, the crime scene is southeast of Hawley, west of Lake Fort Phantom and north of Abilene.

"The investigation is ongoing, and we have no other information to release at this time," said Sgt. Fred Biddle with DPS.
