This weekend was a busy one for local law enforcement, and 53 people made their way to the Tom Green County Jail. Included in those arrests was Steven Michael Brown, 29, for outstanding warrants and deadly conduct. This is Brown’s 20th arrest.
Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of E. 42nd St. on July 9, at around 6.45 p.m., for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, a victim and witnesses told officers that Brown made threatening statements and movements to the victim while displaying a knife.
Officers took Brown into custody and transported him to the TGCJ where he was charged with Deadly Conduct and three outstanding warrants.
In another situation Sunday morning, a 16-year-old driving a 2008 black Lexus at a high rate of speed, and who disregarded a stop sign, hit a curb and crashed into a ditch on Bell Street and Era.
Officer Gonzalez said two witnesses, at around 3 a.m., saw the teenager traveling westbound on Era at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred. However, the teenager told officers he was heading to the store. He said he tried to hit the brakes, but was unable to stop.
Based on the officers’ observations, the teenager was traveling westbound on Era Street at an excessive rate of speed, disregarded the stop sign, crossed S. Bell Street, and hit the curb. The vehicle then became airborne, and traveled approximately 45’ prior to colliding with the embankment on the west side of the drainage ditch. It then came to a stop in the alley.
The 16-year-old was severely injured. Gonzalez said he was charged with no driver’s license, fail to control speed, disregarding a stop sign and no seatbelt.
