Uninsured Durango Catches Fire, Owner Unable to Be Contacted

At approximately 5:30 p.m. cadets attending a class at the Concho Valley Council of Governments noticed a vehicle had caught fire.

The front of the older model Dodge Durango was engulfed in flames at 5055 W. 306 Loop.

Investigator Karla Steppe with the San Angelo Fire Marshal's Office said that it "looked to be contained underneath the engine compartment, and then it moved into the passenger compartment."

"Right now, we are looking for the registered owner," Steppe noted.

They are also currently looking for witnesses who may have seen the fire start. However, they are currently unaware of the cause.

"Usually you have an owner that is around, so this is a little bit different," Steppe stated.

The keys were in the ignition of the SUV, the doors were unlocked, and it was also noted that the vehicle is uninsured.

Officer Gonzalez with San Angelo Police Department added, "All phone numbers for [the owner] are disconnected."
