19-Year-Old Odessa Man Suspect in Andrews Homicide Flees with Infant Son, Amber Alert Issued

 

A 19-year-old Andrews man, identified as a suspect in a homicide investigation in Andrews County, fled with his infant son without permission, said Sgt. Elizabeth Carter with the Texas Department of Public Safety in El Paso. Shortly after, an AMBER Alert was issued.

Carter said at approximately 11 a.m., Texas Rangers were called to respond to a shooting of an adult male that occurred near 1744 SE 5001 in Andrews. Preliminary reports showed that Edwin Rascon, of Oddessa, has been identified as a suspect in the homicide investigation in Andrews County.

After the shooting, Rascon took his infant son and that’s when the AMBER Alert was issued.

Edwin Rascon is described as a 19-year-old (DPS stated he was 18) Hispanic male with brown hair and green eyes. He is 5 feet 10 inches and weighs 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing black jeans, a black shirt and a white hat.

The child, 1-year-old Iviz Rascon, is also a Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is about 30 inches and weighs 34 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and diaper.

Update Mar 11, 7 p.m.

We have not received official notice that the Amber Alert is cancelled. However, Odessa American reports that, "An 18-year-old Odessa resident suspected of taking his year-old son Friday following the fatal shooting of a man in southeast Andrews County remained at large but the boy was found safe at a Stripes store in Odessa, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported." Update Mar. 12, 10 a.m.

DPS Sgt. Carter sent out the following brief statement: "Today at approximately 5:00 a.m. (CT), Edwin Rascon was found and taken into custody in Williamson County. This is an on-going investigation and no further details are available at this time."
