During the past three days, local law enforcement arrested and booked 57 people into the Tom Green County Jail. Out of those arrests, 20 consisted of new complaints on a variety of offenses, but assault tops the list of offenses.
Overall, five people went to TGCJ for assaulting and causing injury to victims, including a family member. Since the beginning of the year, assault and family violence numbers have remained consistent along with drugs and alcohol. On average, there have been two to three people booked a day for this offense.
Sgt. Cade Solsbery with the San Angelo Police Department said previously assault and family violence occurs in spurts. There are times where SAPD officers deal with assault causes continuously, and so it seems as if there’s an increase taking place; however, that’s not necessarily the case.
In addition to assault and family violence, the other crimes that prompted jail time include the following:
- Theft: 4
- Criminal Trespass: 2
- Public Intoxication: 4
- Evading/Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport: 3
- Fail to Identify Fugitive from Justice: 2
- DWI: 3
- Possession of Marijuana: 2
- Driving with Invalid License: 1
- Disregard Red Light: 1
- Fail to Display Occupational Driver’s License: 1
- Violation of Occupational Driver’s License: 1
Out of the 20 people booked on new complaints, three individuals also had outstanding warrants, while 36 people were arrested and booked solely on outstanding warrants.
