Evading and Resisting Arrest, Domestic Violence and Drugs Top Weekend Crimes

This weekend, 67 people made their way to the Tom Green County Jail for various crimes. Many of these offenders were booked on family violence and drug charges, while another thought he could evade/resist arrest. Like many others before him, he failed.

Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said officers were patrolling the unit block of E. 12th Street Sunday morning. She said they noticed Brandon M. Salinas, 26, who had two outstanding arrest warrants, so they attempted to stop him. However, upon seeing their patrol car, he ran.

“Officer N. Long pursued Salinas on foot and was able to call Salinas’ direction of travel to backup officers,” Gonzalez said. “Backup arrived quickly and established a perimeter, ultimately tracking Salinas to the backyard shed of a residence in the unit block of W. 12th Street.”

Gonzalez said Salinas actively resisted officers when they attempted to take him into custody. He caused minor injuries to one officer. Salinas also received minor injuries when he resisted arrest. The San Angelo Fire Department EMS arrived and treated the officer and Salinas at the scene.

“During the search of Salinas, officers located a metal pipe in his pocket—the kind commonly used to partake in illegal drug use,” Gonzalez added.

Gonzalez noted that SAPD Detective Hernandez was contacted regarding the incident. He informed officers that Salinas had a prior conviction for Evading Arrest Detention. Thus, Hernandez advised the officers to charge Salinas for the felony enhancement on the Evading Arrest or Detention offense. Salinas was transported to the TGCJ and booked for that charge along with Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transportation, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and two county warrants.
