San Angelo Teen Gets Arrested for Firing Gun

In the past 24 hours, law enforcement officials sent 29 people to the Tom Green County Jail for various offenses. Drugs and a teenager with a gun top the list of crimes.

Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said yesterday, at 11:35 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Sherwood Way for a subject with a gun. When they arrived and met with the victim, they learned the suspect, 18-year-old Kurt Sword, had already left the area, and police were unable to locate him at the time.

“The victim reported he had seen the suspect trying to open car doors and confronted the suspect,” Solsbery said. He added that Sword pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim prior to running away.

The incident took place at Power Systems Computers, which has a lot of cameras, so officers were able to review some surveillance video that caught the incident. They noticed that Sword had actually fired the handgun in the direction of the victim.

Solsbery added that the surveillance video was turned over to SAPD’s Crime Analysts who were able to identify Sword. While conducting follow-up on the investigation, Sgt. Doug Thomas and Detective Lynn Dye went to Stripes at 901 Glenna after they learned Sword frequents the store. Sword was located in a car parked at the store and was taken into custody without incident. A handgun matching the description of the one used earlier was located in Sword’s possession.

Police transported Sword to SAPD to be interviewed by the lead investigator for this case, Detective Adrian Castro, said Solsbery. Following the interview, Sword was transported to the TGCJ where he was booked for Aggravated Assault and a warrant for Fail to Identify.

In addition to Sword’s case, other people went to the TGCJ for the following offenses:

  • ICEC Hold: 1
  • Assault Causes Bodily Injury: 1
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: 2
  • Possession of Controlled Substance: 6
  • TDCJ Hold: 1
  • DUI/DWI: 3
  • Possession of Marijuana: 2
  • Criminal Trespass: 1
  • Prohibited Weapon Knuckles: 1
  • Public Intoxication: 1
  • Driving with Invalid License: 1

Overall, 16 people were arrested on new complaints, and out of that number, two also had outstanding warrants. Also, 13 people went to the TGCJ for outstanding warrants.
