The Mighty K-9 Thor Stops St. Mary from Fleeing Police

Last night and early this morning, two San Angelo residents decided to evade arrest by the San Angelo Police Department and Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office. They were among 32 individuals who made a trip to the Tom Green County Jail within the past 24 hours.

One of the evaders, a 31-year-old San Angelo man, Curby St. Mary, was arrested for outstanding warrants and Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot after fleeing from a traffic stop.

Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said at 11:42 p.m. last night, Officer P. Garrett made a traffic stop near the intersection of E. Ave. I and S. Oakes St. on a gold colored 2001 Oldsmobile Alero for an improper right turn.

As the vehicle stopped, the front passenger, St. Mary, fled on foot. Solsbery said Patrol officers set up a search perimeter around an area St. Mary was last seen running. Officer J. Fisher and his K-9 Thor responded to find him.

Thor led officers to a house in the 1300 block of Duggan St. where they located the suspect hiding in the backyard. St. Mary had outstanding warrants.

St. Mary was transported to the Tom Green County Jail where he was charged with his outstanding warrants and Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot.

Another passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Surena Rojas, was also found to have outstanding warrants and was arrested as well.

The driver, 34-year-old Jonas Huereca, received a warning for the improper right turn and officers released him at the scene.

In addition to these individuals, one more individual, Hector Zamarron, Jr., also attempted to flee and resisted arrest, had possession of a controlled substance and drove his vehicle with an invalid license. Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office made that arrest and booked him into TGCJ early this morning.

In addition to these evaders, other arrests on new complaints included the following:

  • Driving with Invalid License: 3
  • Fail to Identify/Giving Fictitious Information: 1
  • DWI: 2
  • No Liability Insurance: 1
  • Public Intoxication: 3
  • Burglary of Habitat: 1
  • Criminal Trespass: 1
  • Possession of Controlled Substance: 2

Out of the 32 arrests, 20 had outstanding warrants, which included Rojas.
