U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced the seizure of more than $10,000 in marijuana at the Eagle Pass Port, Texas last weekend.
According to a press release Friday, CBP officers discovered and intercepted the packages of marijuana as it arrived into the United States from Mexico.
At approximately 3:35 p.m. on Feb. 20, CBP officers inspected a 1995 GMC Sierra as it arrived from Mexico at the Camino Real International Bridge. Officers utilized a non-intrusive imaging system for the inspection and a canine. Thirty-eight packages of marijuana was received after being hidden within the rear seat, back wall and spare tire of the vehicle.
Officers sized a total of 51.94 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $10,388.08.
The driver, a 24-year-old man from Allende, Coahuila, Mexico, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents for federal prosecution.
“This interception of dangerous drugs truly exemplifies the teamwork of our officers working at our port,” said Port Director John Brandt, Eagle Pass Port of Entry. “Our officers employed a combination of observational skills and high tech tools to uncover this load and prevent it from going any further.”
