In the past 24 hours, 27 people took a trip to the Tom Green County Jail for a variety of offenses. Out of those people arrested, nine people were booked on new complaints, including a San Angelo man who injured a 6-year-old boy.
Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said officers were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of E. Riverside yesterday at approximately 5:49 p.m. for the report of child abuse. Officers responded and determined Esteban Duron, Jr., 37, intentionally caused bodily injury to a 6-year-old child.
Gonzalez added that officials from Criminal Investigations Division responded as well, and after interviewing all involved parties, they advised SAPD Patrol to arrest Duron.
Duron has a record that dates back to 1997, and this arrest makes his 12th. This is also not the first time Duron has hurt a child. He was booked on a similar charge in August of 2012 and released in April 2013.
According to court records, on July 4, 2012, Duron took a 14-year-old boy to an unknown area at Lake Nasworthy. While there, Duron attempted to get the teenager to hold a firecracker in his hand. When the teenager told Duron he did not want to hold the firecracker, Duron pushed the teenager to the ground and hit him in the eye. He then placed his hand around the teenager’s neck and cut off his normal breathing by squeezing. Pictures used in the case proved the injuries consistent with the scenario.
The complaint, however, does not state Duron's relationship to the teenager, nor did Gonzalez clarify the relationship to the 6-year-old or the injuries received.
In addition to these incidents, Duron was booked in July 2001 for Manslaughter/Criminal Negligent Homicide of a San Angelo resident, Daniel Ruiz, by shooting with a shotgun. Duron pleaded guilty and was sentenced to the penitentiary for eight years. He was released in 2007.
In addition to Duron’s Injury to a Child arrest, here are other crimes committed in the past 24 hours:
- Driving with Invalid License: 3
- Possession of Controlled Substance: 2
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: 1
- Theft of Property > $100 < $750: 1
- Fail to Identify Giving False/Fictitious Info.: 1
- DWI: 1
- No Liability Insurance: 1
- Public Intoxication: 1
In addition to the individuals booked on new complaints, 18 people went to the TGCJ on outstanding warrants.

..that thinks it's ironic and sad that he is wearing what appears to be some kind of "stop bullying" t-shirt when his crime(s) are hurting children?
